The San Clemente-based organization highlighted the plight of African elephants with speakers Frank Pope and Saba Douglas-Hamilton of Save the Elephants
Newport Beach, Calif.—October 16, 2018—Elephant Cooperation, dedicated to saving elephants and helping children, hosted its second annual sold-out event at Fashion Island Hotel, Newport Beach with more than 350 guests in attendance.
Hosting for a second year was George Argyros, Jr., local philanthropist and president of Elite Financial Group. This year, attendees were treated to a performance by X Factor’s Kristine Mirelle and two engaging presentations from Elephant Cooperation’s African partners. Argyros, Jr., who is very passionate about saving elephants and has been to Africa several times, later donated $100,000 to the Fund-A-Need portion of the evening.
While guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner, Elephant Cooperation showcased its work to stop the extinction of the African elephant with a presentation by Frank Pope, CEO of Save the Elephants, and Saba Douglas-Hamilton who serves as the organization’s lead ambassador. The UK registered charity, based in Kenya, works to sustain elephant populations and their habitats.
Additionally, Julian and Aleen Movsesian were honored with Elephant Cooperation’s first Philanthropic Champion Award for being one of last year’s biggest financial contributors. The couple traveled with Elephant Cooperation to Botswana in the Spring, where they re-ignited their passion for children and elephants.
Raabia Hawa, a former radio presenter turned honorary ranger with the Kenyan Wildlife Service who has dedicated her life to saving elephants, spoke of her work protecting them on the front lines and current devastating poaching activity in the Tana Delta of Kenya.
“We are ecstatic we were able to build on the momentum of last year’s very successful premier gala,” said Scott Struthers, founder of Elephant Cooperation. “Our community has been so supportive and has made it clear that stopping the extinction of elephants is a passion and a top priority, something we can all do together.”
